Dear CHUM Families and Friends,
As the school year ends and the ever busy summer approaches, many items come to mind as 'rememinders' for everyone! First, a huge 'Thank You!!' to the Kohl's volunteers from the Lansing and Okemos stores for their great work! The two stores put a new coat of paint on the kick boards, completed both the garden by the outdoor arena and the flower boxes in front of the arena, and put in the pavillion floor by the outdoor arena! It was a great job by all! Thanks to Sam and Nancy who also volunteered for this project.
Sunrise Aggregates have generously helped us again with landscaping product and are currently working on some excavating as well. Lynnman Construction let us know the wall metal and light panels will be delivered this week and hopfully the final touches will be put on the arena by the end of May. Then it is on to the expansion with bathrooms!! Ahh the little things that make us so happy!!
On Tuesday we are taking horses to Red Cedar Elementary in East Lansing so that Renee Olance's class may show the school the skills they have acquired at CHUM! Thank you to all the volunteers who are helping make this possible for them!!
The Second Annual CHUM Memorial Horse Show is this Saturday, May 23rd, starting at 9 am and running all day. Volunteers are needed both Friday to wash horses and set up as well as Saturday as volunteers in the arena during the show, in the food tent, etc. Classes are filling and it promises to be an outstanding day for our riders to showcase their love of horses and skills learned.
No riding Monday, Memorial Day!!
Spring term ends June 6th and CHUM wishes all the families and our graduates a huge congratulations and God's Blessings as you begin this new chapter of your lives.
Summer term begins June 29th, runs Mon through Thur and scheduling has started now. Please contact Bonnie as soon as possible to get on the schedule. The term runs through August 20. Watch for occasional 'non-riding' days announcements for riders at Fair etc. Stacy will also be teaching part of the time this summer as well.

Our annual Ride N Camp at Ionia State Recreation Area will be July 3-5. We have the group camp area away from the main campground. We take all the horses we feel we will need and families can experience a trail ride in a breathtaking park with a creek to ride across, a wooden bridge, open fields, hard woods and nature everywhere! You can come for the day on Sat or come and camp one or two nights. Many families had their first camping experience with their kids last year. It was great! We have a huge potluck on Sat afternoon with door prizes etc. Throughout the weekend there are activities like swimming in Sessions Lake with a large beach, two big bath houses and shallow areas for the kids. We often play volleyball, horseshoes, cards etc at the event. It is a great time for families to get away. There is a donation of $35 per trail ride per person.
Well, that is the tentative news for now. Watch for exciting additions periodically and don’t forget to put us on your calendar!
God Bless,
Bonnie
